A comprehensive rehabilitation of a young individual with post-tuberculosis triple knee deformity: A case report
Abstract
Triple knee deformity is one of the rare clinical condition seen in patient with tubercular infection of the knee. The disease is characterized by valgus, external rotation, flexion and subluxation of the knee. Tuberculosis is an endemic infection majorly affecting the individuals in the developing countries. tuberculosis affects lungs bone, the common clinical features of TB includes cough, loss of appetite, blood in vomit etc. Here we are presenting a twelve year old boy who was diagnosed with triple knee deformity was managed with corrective osteotomy followed by physiotherapy the patient mentioned a history of TB infection and completed the regimen for the same. The patient showed positive improvement in the strength and range of motion and ilizarov’s fixation corrected maximum deformity. We conclude that the deformities of the lower limb affects the individuals’ activities of daily living and in long term may reduce the strength and range of motion. So a well tailored physical therapy program plays a significant role is maintain the activity level of the individuals, and prevention of secondary complication of immobility.
