Examining Overseas Chinese in Ghana and Sino-Ghana Relations through (Auto)biography as a Historiographic Approach: A Transcultural Communicative Perspective.
Abstract
The Sino-Ghana relationship has consistently grown over the past 60 years, covering political, economic, trade, and cultural domains. This study uses (auto)biography as a historiographic approach to understanding the personal accounts of Chinese people in Ghana and their role in shaping Sino-Ghana relations. It offers a transcultural perspective on the relationship, focusing on the micropolitical level and Chinese experiences in Ghana as a model for Chinese plans and wisdom. Analysing Chinese stories in Ghana provides a panoramic view of Ghana's political-historical-sociocultural development. The study uses mixed methods, including a review of 60 years of news discourse and five case studies of Chinese in Ghana. It contributes to Sino-Ghana studies and offers insights for improving public diplomacy between the two countries.
