Abstract

Penile amputation is a rare but tragic complication of circumcision and other penile surgical procedures, child abuse, traffic accidents and animal attacks.
Replantation is likely to be successful when performed within 8 hours of amputation especially if the glans are stored in cold saline. After that period, options include phallic reconstruction and sex reassignment.
